On Saturday, Feb. 3, a man came to Blairstown Police headquarters and said he had a pop-up virus on his computer with a phone number to contact Microsoft, police said on Facebook.
When he called the number, the party advised him not to contact anyone or do anything with his computer and he was later told he had to withdraw $45,000 from his checking account, police said.
The man obtained a cashier's check and sent it to an address in California via UPS overnight, police said. A Blairstown officer contacted officers in California and assisted the man with getting the UPS delivery stopped and getting the check returned to the man, police said.
